Rowing machines offer a total body workout

If you are looking for a total body, no impact workout, consider your gym's rowing machines.  Rowing machines are an excellent cardio workout and subject your joints to minimal impact.  They are a great way to work on your arms, back, core, legs and lungs.

One of the advantages of a good rowing machine is that you can work at your own pace.  That means you can really get in a good workout in a short period of time.  Later on, we will discuss rowing machine reviews so that you can choose the perfect one for you and your family.

Why choose a rowing machine over a treadmill or elliptical?

  • Rowing machines offer one of the most effective calorie burning workouts

  • Excellent aerobic conditioning

  • Combine strength training and cardio workouts

  • No impact

What to look for when shop for your rowing machine:

  • Make sure your rowing machine offers an electronic control panel - make sure it is easy to operate

  • Buy a model with pre-set programs for a variety of workouts

  • Ensure the seat glides easily and smoothly back and forth

  • Don't buy machines that are multifunctional.  Keep it to a straight rowing machine.

  • Home models are not manufactured as heavily as commercial models.  Be sure you pick a model that is stable and offers a good warranty.

  • Expect to pay between $800 - $2000 for a good rowing machine

Rowing Machine Reviews:

When shopping for your new rowing machine, you will come across a number of different models and makes.  The most important factors to consider include the features you are looking for, easy to store, smooth operation and price.  Of course, the more you pay the more features you will likely get.

Two of the top rowing machines to consider include the R100 APM Premier Rower and the Concept2 Fitness Rower.  Both are excellent machines but the R100 actually offers more features including:

  • 16 levels of magnetic and air resistance

  • 15 preset resistance programs

  • 600lbs capacity frame

  • 5 year warranty on parts

  • Belt drive system

  • Over-sized soft seat

  • 3 heart rate programs

The R100 rowing machine folds easily for quick storage while the Concept2 must be taken apart.

Either row machine will provide you with an excellent workout so it will come down to price and features.  The R100 machine will retail for around $1,500 while the Concept2 will cost about $1,200 for the E Model.  Both are excellent choices but we recommend the R100 for the extra features and slightly higher price. Be sure to go and try out your rowing machine before you buy to ensure it is a good fit for you.
